Our Trip Across Canada: the people we saw and the things we did

The last tree was planted on August 1st; however, Kurtis and I were able to work an extra two days to finish up the last pay plots and a few other odds and ends. The following pictures will document our travels across Canada. It was a lovely time of re-connecting with family friends, enjoying the great outdoors, and gaining a more rounded appreciation of the Canadian landscapes. I would say that 98% of the picture credit goes to Kurtis, who is our trusty photographer. I typically frolic on the beach, eat ice cream, or people watch while he gets the perfect shot. I would say that it is a great set up!

After the season ended, we headed to Fairview to visit Kurtis’ grandfather and a few other relatives. This is his great aunt and her grandson playing in a country band.

We had a lovely time on Kurtis’ grandparent’s acreage outside of Sexsmith, AB.

We went on a mini canoe trip down the South Saskatchewan river. It was lovely!

Bana and Larissa came for a short visit

It was wonderful to see Nabiha and Abdul Jaleel and their family while in Moose Jaw.

We left Saskatchewan to continue our journey east on August 29th. Here is Kurtis along the shores of Clear Lake, in Riding Mountain National Park. We camped here for one night.

On to Winnipeg, we had a meal with Auntie Pam and Uncle George

…and we stayed with Steve and Karen and their three boys.

We then started our trek through Ontario. About 12 hours in we camped for two nights at Pukaskwa National Park, which is on Lake Superior

DSCN0040.JPG

We were both thoroughly impressed by Lake Superior!

We visited Kurtis’ sister, Jessica, in Orillia, ON. This is us on a walk near her house, along with her fiancĂ©, Josh.

We then moved on to Ottawa and took in the Parliament grounds on a very rainy day.

We got to spend some time with our good friends, Breanne and Jared Koster, in Ottawa

On to Quebec City! In short, I love Quebec City!

When in Quebec City, eat poutine and lots of it!

DSCN0148.JPG

We enjoyed wandering the streets and the back allies; trying not to be to creepy as we gawk at the creative living spaces.

After Quebec City, we went on to Fredericton, where we visited my cousin, Phil, and his family. This is us at an orchard picking apples.

Downtown Muncton. We only stopped here for a picnic lunch, but still thought that it was a neat town.

Camping on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick.

Hopewell Rocks National Park during low tide. We spent the whole day wandering the beaches and watching the tide go out and come back in. It was a refreshing day that was good for the soul.

In the same area as the above picture, but as high tide was approaching.

Almost at high tide! we stayed until there was only a small way of escape before the stairs were covered with water.

On to PEI!

DSCN0273.JPG

The customary picture in front of the Anne of Green Gables House. Tourists come from far and wide to see a fairly typical house; we spent a whole 15 minutes there and then moved on to the hiking trials, amazing views, beaches, and seafood.

Greenwich Park. Amazing sand dunes and beach!

There is something about a beach that is good for the soul.

We spent three nights camping in Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. This is us having a lunch of Acadian food and seafood crowder in Cheticamp.

The astounding Cabot Trail! This is taken on a hike called the Skyline Trail.

Phase 1 of our adventure is complete! We are in an Air B and B in Halifax right now and all of our stuff is everywhere as we prepare for Phase 2, which starts tomorrow. More details, pictures, and insights to come!

  1. What an awesome trip! Matt and I did a big road trip around Canada & the states this summer to see family too — it’s so great to just spend so much time together, eh?
